 Porzucanie zwierzątCo roku w sezonie wakacyjnym wielu ludzi porzuca swoich domowych pupili. Nagle ukochany pies czy kot staje się niepotrzebnym balastem utrudniającym wyjazd na wymarzony urlop, a brutalne pozbycie się zwierzęcia przez niektórych uważane jest za najprostsze rozwiązanie.

Jak informuje Piotr Jaworski z Towarzystwa Opieki nad Zwierzętami, w wakacje odnotowywana jest zwiększona liczbę porzuceń. Wynosi ona nawet do 25% więcej, niż poza miesiącami wakacyjnymi. – Pomimo naszej edukacji humanitarnej, apeli, podawania w internecie informacji i hotelach dla zwierząt, to ten proceder nadal istnieje i według naszych statystyk generalnie się nie zwiększa, ale też i nie zmniejsza – dodaje.

– Prze urlopem ludzie sprzątają mieszkania z psów i kotów jak ze starych mebli. To jest obłęd – powiedział „Gazecie Wyborczej” Tomasz Niewczyk z warszawskiego schroniska Pod Pism Aniołem.

Osób, które pozbywają się niechcianych zwierząt, nie odstraszają nawet sankcje karne. Jak podkreśla Jaworski, porzucenie zwierzęcia, a w szczególności kota lub psa, uznawane jest za znęcanie się nad zwierzęciem i zagrożone jest, w zależności od stopnia okrucieństwa, karą pozbawienia wolności do lat dwóch.

Pieskie życie w schronisku

Porzucone zwierzęta w większości przypadków trafiają do schronisk. Chociaż mają tu zapewnioną opiekę, to jednak schronisko nigdy nie zastąpi im prawdziwego domu. Ponadto zaadaptowanie się do nowych warunków przychodzi im z trudem.

Kupione pospiesznie i bez zastanowienia albo otrzymane jako niechciany prezent, zaczynają sprawiać kłopoty i na dodatek nie wiadomo za bardzo, co z nim zrobić.

– Kiedy zwierzę do nas trafi, przez pierwsze dni widać po nim ogromny stres. – mówi Bożena Kiedrowska ze Schroniska dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Lublinie. – Przez pierwsze trzy dni psy nie chcą nawiązywać relacji z nami, wykazują agresję albo widać po nich lęk i  strach. Reakcje są bardzo różne i zależą od danego osobnika, ale zawsze towarzyszy im olbrzymi stres – podkreśla. Dodaje przy tym, że wszyscy pracownicy schroniska, wśród których jest także zoopsycholog, pracują nad tym, aby ten stres w jakimś stopniu zmniejszyć.

Kiedrowska zaznacza jednak, że najwięcej zwierząt trafia do nich nie podczas letnich miesięcy, ale dopiero jesienią. Ma to związek z tym, że w wakacje ludzie często przygarniają i karmią bezpańskie zwierzaki, a potem oddają je do schroniska twierdząc, że „to są zwierzęta bezdomne, a oni je tylko dokarmiali”.

W niektórych miastach, gminach oraz lecznicach weterynaryjnych przeprowadzane są akcje czipowania zwierząt. Polega to na tym, że tuż pod skórą pupila umieszczony zostaje elektroniczny czip, w którym zakodowany jest niepowtarzalny numer. Następnie dane dotyczące zwierzęcia oraz jego  opiekuna wprowadzane są do Międzynarodowej Bazy Danych Safe-Animal. Niestety, system ten nie zawsze się sprawdza.

Najwięcej zwierząt trafia do schroniska nie podczas letnich miesięcy, ale dopiero jesienią. Ma to związek z tym, że w wakacje ludzie często je przygarniają i dokarmiają.

– Często mamy problemy z zobligowaniem właścicieli do odbioru zwierzęcia. Niektórzy wręcz wydają się zadowoleni z tego, że pies „uciekł” i kategorycznie odmawiają odebrania go ze schroniska, unikają kontaktu telefonicznego, ignorują pisemne wezwania. – informuje Wanda Dejnarowicz z warszawskiego schroniska „Na Paluchu”. W takich przypadkach schronisko zawiadamia policję o porzuceniu zwierzęcia. Jednak jak podkreśla Dejnarowicz, praktycznie w 100% przypadków prokuratura umarza te sprawy.

Problematyczna egzotyka

Porzucane są nie tylko psy i koty. Podobny los spotyka też zwierzęta egzotyczne. Kupione pospiesznie i bez zastanowienia albo otrzymane jako niechciany prezent, zaczynają sprawiać kłopoty i na dodatek nie wiadomo za bardzo, co z nim zrobić. Niektórzy usiłują oddać zwierzę do ogrodu zoologicznego. Inni porzucają je po prostu na gdzieś uboczu, a wtedy po odnalezieniu i tak trafia do zoo. Do warszawskiego ogrodu zoologicznego w ten sposób trafiają głównie gady.

Jak powiedział nam Mariusz Lech, Kierownik Herpetarium w Ogrodzie Zoologicznym w Warszawie, problem dotyczy głównie tych osób, które trzymają w domu jednego gada, kupionego pod wpływem chwili w jakimś dużym sklepie zoologicznym.

– To zwierzątko rosło, rosło aż stało się bardziej agresywne i bardziej wymagające. Wtedy taki Kowalski doszedł do wniosku, że albo je wypuści, albo odda do zoo myśląc, że ogrody zoologiczne po prostu czekają na tego typu zwierzaki. – opisuje Lech.

Zwierzątko rosło, rosło aż stało się bardziej agresywne i bardziej wymagające. Wtedy taki Kowalski doszedł do wniosku, że albo je wypuści, albo odda do zoo.

Jak jednak podkreśla dalej, zoo nie zawsze jest jednak w stanie przyjąć wszystkie zwierzęta, ponieważ ograniczają go określone przepisy weterynaryjne – w przypadku zwierząt o nieznanym pochodzeniu istnieje ryzyko, że może mieć chorobę zakaźną. Ponadto ogrody zoologiczne muszą tak budować swoją kolekcję zwierząt, żeby była ciekawa, przedstawiała jakąś różnorodność oraz skupiała się na gatunkach ginących, których hodowla jest potrzebna. Tymczasem popularne gatunki gadów trzymanych w domu to: 10 gatunków węży i jaszczurek oraz 2-3 gatunki żółwi. Nie stanowią one żadnej atrakcji i nie są cenne pod względem ochrony przyrody.

Porzucone lub odnalezione zwierzęta trafiają do ogrodu zoologicznego przez cały rok. W przypadku gadów, w okresie wakacyjnym trafia ich 2-3 razy więcej, niż poza sezonem.

Ale nie tylko ogrody zoologiczne są w stanie zaopiekować się niechcianymi wężami czy żółwiami. Taka możliwość istnieje też w lubelskim schronisku, które jako jedyne w Polsce prowadzi tzw. egzotarium, gdzie trafiają zwierzęta uznawane za egzotyczne.

Bożena Kiedrowska zaznacza, że egzotarium to przede wszystkim ośrodek rehabilitacji, w którym pracownicy schroniska starają się stworzyć wzorcowe warunki: odpowiedni klimat, odpowiednie żywienie i odpowiednie leczenie. W większości przypadków zwierzęta dzięki temu dochodzą do zdrowia.

Niektóre z nich są tu od dawna. Porzucono je kiedyś np. na dworcu lub pod urzędem miasta. – To jest straszne. Wcześniej takich przypadków mieliśmy dość dużo, ale teraz jest ich coraz mniej – informuje Kiedrowska.

Wakacje w hotelu

Psa lub kota na czas urlopu można pozostawić w hotelu dla zwierząt, gdzie ma zapewnioną całodzienną opiekę.

– W naszym hotelu pieski mogą mieszkać zarówno w kojcach zewnętrznych, jak też w boksach umieszczonych w naszym domu. – mówi Hanna Borman z Hotelu dla Zwierząt „ALFA” w Dobieszu – Zasadą jest, iż każdy pies dostaje samodzielne pomieszczenie, chyba że z jednego domu przyjeżdżają dwa lub trzy psy i właściciel życzy sobie, aby psy mieszkały razem. Zarówno kojce zewnętrzne, jak i boksy „domowe” wyposażone są w posłania, koce lub kołdry, miski i zabawki (w kojcu zewnętrznym jest też buda). Właściciel przywozi jedynie karmę, koniecznie książeczkę zdrowia, smycz, obrożę i kaganiec oraz coś „pachnącego domem” (np. ręcznik, podkoszulek Pani lub Pana, kocyk, ulubioną zabawkę) – informuje.

Pozostawienie zwierzęcia w hotelu wiąże się jednak ze stresem. Jak podkreśla Borman, każdy pies na swój sposób przeżywa rozstanie z rodziną, nawet jeśli to jest już kolejny jego pobyt w hotelu. Reakcje mogą być bardzo różne: szczekanie, sensacje żołądkowe, smutek, całkowite wycofanie się i obserwacja, co się dzieje, itp. Dlatego hotel dużą wagę przywiązuje do zachowania stałego rytmu dnia.

– Psy po niedługim czasie przyzwyczajają się do tego rytmu, wiedzą, co je czeka i o jakiej porze. Jeśli do tego dobierze się zgrane, psie towarzystwo, co gwarantuje świetną zabawę, a – dodatkowo – pieski są przez nas dopieszczane i nagradzane, to smutek szybko mija i zaczynają się prawdziwe psie wakacje – opisuje Borman.

Co zrobić z pupilem?

Bardzo dobrym rozwiązaniem jest tzw. zamiana sąsiedzka. Dzięki niej zwierzę pozostaje w znajomym i bezpiecznym środowisku.

Hotel dla zwierząt to nie jedyna możliwość zapewnienia opieki psu lub kotu. Jak wskazuje Piotr Jaworski, bardzo dobrym rozwiązaniem jest tzw. zamiana sąsiedzka. Polega ona na tym, że np. jedna rodzina wyjeżdża na wakacje w lipcu i zostawia swojego pupila pod opieką drugiej. Potem ta druga rodzina wyjeżdża w sierpniu i oddaje psa lub kota pod opiekę tej pierwszej. Według Jaworskiego, to rozwiązanie jest dla zwierząt domowych o wiele mniej stresujące, ponieważ pozostaje w znajomym i bezpiecznym środowisku.

Nieco inaczej rzecz się ma w przypadku wielu zwierząt egzotycznych, zwłaszcza gadów i bezkręgowców. Często o wiele lepsze dla nich jest pozostawienie ich w domu bez opieki. Zwierzęta zmiennocieplne mają wolniejszy metabolizm i przez długi czas potrafią nie przyjmować pokarmów. Jest to dla nich zachowanie zupełnie naturalne, a transport i  zmiana otoczenia zawsze wiąże się  z niepotrzebnym stresem. Niektórym gatunkom natomiast wystarcza pozostawienie zapasu pokarmu. Koniecznie więc trzeba się wcześniej upewnić, jakie wymagania ma nasz podopieczny.

Jeśli natomiast chodzi o psy i koty, to najlepszym dla nich rozwiązaniem jest po prostu zabranie ich ze sobą na urlop. Szczególnie zachęca do tego Piotr Jaworski.

W tej chwili olbrzymia część różnych ośrodków wczasowych, gospodarstw agroturystycznych itp. przyjmuje wczasowiczów z czworonogami.

– Wakacje, to nie jest problem „co my zrobimy ze swoim psem czy kotem”, ponieważ w tej chwili olbrzymia część różnych ośrodków wczasowych, gospodarstw agroturystycznych itp. przyjmuje wczasowiczów z czworonogami. – zaznacza – Ważne jest to, że możemy z naszym przyjacielem pojechać na wakacje razem.

Natomiast według Bożeny Kiedrowskiej, bardzo ważną rzeczą jest edukacja, dlatego tez lubelskie schronisko współpracuje ze szkołami i przedszkolami.

– Ludzie nie są okrutni, tylko nieświadomi. – zaznacza – Liczę na to, że następne pokolenie będzie zupełnie inne.
